ADD/ADHD

A child diagnosed with ADD/ADHD often lies just outside the normal range of acceptable behavior.

At Crossroads Institute we believe that in order to properly assist a child with ADD/ADHD it is necessary to carefully examine all aspects of the child's life and neurological development. More importantly we have found that not all children who are diagnosed with ADD/ ADHD actually have this problem.

Many children have simply missed stages in neurological development. This combined with an imbalance in electrical frequencies in the brain are at the core of behavioral issues that are now defined as ADD/ADHD.

In some cases these children may be slower at processing due to a neurodevelopmental challenge that translates to slower learning, inattentiveness, and frustration. Our Neurodevelopment Abilities Assessment is used to identify these issues.

We determine the electrical activity in the brain and whether it is processing efficiently with the use of an FDA approved qEEG brain map, which is probably the only true objective measure of brain processing issues.

Once the compromised brain systems are determined, we offer a non-medication solution through the use of neurodevelopmental training combined with neurotherapy.

Neurotherapy allows specific attentional systems in the brain to be exercised by shifting the brain waves into proper patterns. Neurodevelopment home training exercises are also used to continually exercise the neurological pathways that need more training or stimulation.

Our goal is to increase permanent processing performance where there is no or low performance. We have found that drugs such as Ritalin temporarily speed up the sample rate of how fast the brain processes information. So it appears the brain is working properly, but it only masks the problem. Once the drug is stopped the issues have a tendency to reappear.

Through our non-medication programs we simply aid the child by providing developmental activities designed to overcome the neuro-biological based issue. Secondly, we design a set of neurotherapy sessions that allow the brainwave frequencies to come into proper balance. Finally, we offer support and expertise to retrain old behavior patterns that are no longer necessary.
