QEEG Brain Map

ADD/ADHD

*ADD/ADHD is a developmental delay disorder, not a personality/behavior issue.

* Quantitative EEG can indicate ADD/ADHD to an accuracy of 90%.

* Three decades of research support using qEEG as a determinant of ADD/ADHD.

*qEEG assessment is covered by many insurance companies.

*There are many "look a-like" symptoms that mimic ADD/ADHD.

Crossroads Institute ADD/ADHD Lab

Between 70%-80% of the clients who come to The Crossroads Institute with the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD do not have ADD/ADHD!

The Crossroads Institute offers objective measures to help determine ADD/ADHD and based upon those results can offer options to overcome symptoms of ADD/ADHD ...without the use of medications.

Our experience and research show drugs and medications mask the symptoms...they don't correct the issues. Prior to prescription treatment, always ask for an objective analysis of your child's neurodevelopment and brain function.

Step 1: We start by mapping the brain, an objective, highly accurate (90%), non-invasive measure of ADD/ADHD.

Step 2: An additional assessment includes an objective measurement of hearing/listening for auditory processing. Often an auditory processing issue will mimic ADD/ADHD. Go to the Learning to Listening Program for more information on this complete program.

Step 3: A neurodevelopmental profile will be completed looking at the overall development of the brain and specifically at memory issues, including short term and intermediate memory disorders. Memory issues often result in the appearance of inattention or focus, including the inability to remember a sequence of steps or directions. This may be mistaken for the individual not paying attention or listening.

Step 4: We may recommend a physical evaluation by a specialist who will look at specific physiological issues such as diet, nutrition, allergy issues and toxins. We have documented allergies (food, chemical and environmental) that effect concentration, focus, and attention.

Step 5: A program based on the results of individualized assessments will be offered to overcome ADD/ADHD symptoms and/or look alike symptoms. Our programs will vary depending upon the client and the complexity of their issues. (See The Brain Lab)

With over three decades of published research to back up our programs, we offer tests to discriminate and classify normal subjects vs. ADD/ADHD with an accuracy of 90%. This quantitative physiological assessment is performed using the non-invasive technique of quantitative EEG, also known as qEEG or brain mapping.

This is an objective neurometric assessment tool which uses digital technology to measure brain wave patterns recorded at the surface of the scalp. Patients simply sit in a chair while data is collected via a sensor-lined cap which fits over the scalp.

Three decades of published research have consistently shown a specific pattern in the ADD/ADHD brain wave activity.

Recognized by the American Psychological Association and other professional bodies, qEEG data captures brain wave information which shows us the current level of functioning of an individual's brain, and which can confirm or disprove with 90% accuracy the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD.

QEEG has an accuracy rate equal to or superior to routinely used clinical tests such as mammograms, blood tests, MRI and CT scans.

How Does QEEG Work?

This procedure is non-invasive using an electrode cap with conductive gel which allows brain wave activity to be recorded from the surface of the scalp. This qEEG data is then sent electronically through our specialized, FDA approved devise and software which allows us to compare an individual's brain wave activity against our normative database.

We can discriminate not only for ADD/ADHD with 90% accuracy but also for a number of other disorders such as auditory processing, short term and intermediate memory disorders and other learning disabilities which can mimic ADD/ADHD.

ADD/ADHD Look-Alikes

In our experience, ADD/ADHD is a developmental delay disorder, not a personality/behavior issue.

Many times delays in attention development coexist with delays or malfunction in other areas. They include:

* Auditory Processing
* Visual Processing
* Memory Delays
* Laterality Development
* Allergies (food, chemicals, environmental)
* Thyroid Function Abnormalities
* Neurotransmitter Abnormalities

Any of the above can result in lack of focus in reading, math, comprehension and academics at large. Therefore, our assessments always include these areas.
