When a child is identified as having a "brain issue" such as ADD, Autism or a learning disability they often get caught in the label and are not allowed to go beyond it. When that same "brain issue" is looked at from a neurodevelopment point of view it can be seen as an underdeveloped part of the nervous system, or what we call a developmental delay, based upon lack of maturity of the different functional brain systems. This underdevelopment may be located in the Central Nervous System (brain and spinal cord) or in Peripheral Nervous System (the supporting neuropathways), which brings information to the brain. Crossroads Institute's Kids Neurodevelopment program looks at the "labels" as developmental delays. Our program assists in determining how the brain receives, stores, processes and expresses information. From this a set of symptoms and real issue/s begin to emerge leading to a non-medicated solution to the developmental delay issue. |
