Learning Disabilities

Learning issues can be a major frustration for both children and their parents. When children struggle with basic skills such as reading, comprehension, math and concentration they may feel they don't measure up to the required expectations. This can lead to a poor self-image.

At Crossroads Institute we look upon learning disabilities as a developmental delay issue. We see this as an underdeveloped nervous system.

This underdevelopment may be located in the Central Nervous System (brain and spinal cord) or in Peripheral Nervous System (the supporting neuropathways), which brings information to the brain.

In order to correct the learning deficit we first determine which part of the nervous system is affected and how the brain receives, stores, processes and expresses information.

From this assessment the real issue/s begin to emerge leading the way to a non-medicated solution.

After proper identification, exercises can be designed to assist the development of the part of the nervous system effected, which in turn allows these areas to mature. At that point, many individuals can overcome the "label" of learning disabled.
