Learning-2-Learn For Expressive Writing

This part of the program helps students in grades 3-12 learn the fundamentals of the writing process.

Crossroads Learning-2-Learn -Writing

  • Enables students to learn through structured assignments about each stage of the writing process
  • Provides a variety of pre-writing tools such as a note card tool and a graphic organizer tool to motivate students to write
  • Is used across the mentoring program to develop skills in organization, analysis, synthesis, and communication.
  • Focus on various modes of writing (e.g., expository, narrative, persuasive, descriptive, etc.)
  • Provides lesson plans to support each mode

Writing Skills

  • Being Consistent - verb tense, pronoun shifts, parallelism, Noun/pronoun agreement, subject verb agreement
  • Expressing Ideas Logically - logical sentence structure, continuity between sentences and paragraphs
  • Being Precise and Clear - Ambiguous pronoun reference, correct word choice, wordiness, weak passive verb
  • Following Conventions - Adjective/adverb convention, double negative, wrong relative pronoun/case, idioms, incorrect comparisons, comma splice/fused sentence

    • Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics - tense, agreement, reference, diction
